Overview

Renew™ is ideal for use in systems where phosphate released from all activated carbons poses a problem. Renew™ is also less aggressive than carbon, making it well suited for reefs and planted aquaria. It is also beneficial for use in soft water aquaria where the pH-raising property of many carbons is not an asset. Renew™ will remove organics and particulates in the sub-micron range; it will also help control ammonia, nitrates, and phosphates.

Directions

Renew™ should be used in exactly the same manner as activated carbon. Use 250 mL for each 120–160 L (30–40 US gallons). For best results, Renew™ should be placed so as to maximize the flow of water through it. Use in a filter bag such as the Zip Bag™. Although Renew™ is clean, it is advisable to rinse before use. It lasts about the same as carbon (4–6 weeks).
The Foam Filter Sponge (35, 55, 75, & 110) acts as mechanical filtration, trapping detritus and other large particulates. It is your first stage of filtration, and its use will help extend the life of chemical filtration media. Every Tidal™ filter comes with one Foam Filter Sponge to get you started.

Features

Ventilation slots

Ventilation slots in the lid of the filter and aeration grooves in the outflow ensure that water returned to the tank is fully oxygenated and maximize gas exchange during filtration.

Bottom-to-top flow

The pump pushes water up into the basket of the filter, entering through the bottom of the basket and being pushed out the top. A bottom-to-top flow ensures that water comes into contact will all filter media, and cannot go around or over filter media as with hang on back filters with a back-to-front flow.

Maintenance alert

Over time, filtration media can become clogged with detritus reducing or obstructing the flow of water through it. When this happens in Tidal™ filters, water is redirected around the filter and back into the aquarium through an outlet on the side. The redirected water pushes up the blue maintenance alert on the top of the filter, signaling that the filter needs to be cleaned.

Surface skimmer

The surface skimmer will capture the water from just below the surface, where excreted fish oils accumulate, as well as deeper in the tank removing floating debris

Telescoping intake pipe

The adjustable telescoping intake allows water to be taken from any level of the tank without the need to stop the filter or bother with spare parts

Flow regulation

The flow on the pump is adjustable using the dial on the front

Intake flow regulation

A dial on the side of the filter adjusts how much flow comes from the underwater intake versus the surface skimmer

No filter cartridges

The filter basket has a huge capacity to hold filtration media of your choice in the configuration of your choice. All Tidal™ Filters come with Seachem's Matrix™ bio-media to get you started.

No mess maintenance

The basket is fully removable and snaps into the lid of the filter for easy and drip-free transit to a sink or hose for cleaning.

Self-priming pump

Self-priming pump means there is no need to fill the filter basket with water, start a siphon, monitor the filter, or any of the other headaches of starting a new filter

Self-cleaning impeller

The self-cleaning, corrosion-resistant impeller is suited for both saltwater and freshwater environments. This cuts down on maintenance and makes the filter suitable for a wide range of environments.

Adjustable leveling device

A leveler on the base of the filter lets the filter adjust to a variety of aquarium styles

Heater holder

A heater can be attached to the side with an optional heater clip, allowing for better dispersal of heated water through the aquarium.

3 year warranty

All Tidal™ Filters are guaranteed against defects of materials and workmanship for a period of 3 years from the date of purchase, except for the pump’s impeller. This can be extended to 5 years by registering your filter. The warranty covers the replacement of the defective parts.

Overview

purfiltrum™ is a unique macro-porous synthetic polymer that removes soluble and insoluble organic impurities from water 5 to 10 times faster and more completely than all other competing products. It is the highest capacity organic filtration resin on the market outperforming even Seachem Purigen®, binding 10 to 15% more organic material. purfiltrum™ controls ammonia, nitrites and nitrates by removing nitrogenous organic waste that would otherwise be converted into these harmful chemicals. purfiltrum™ will not reduce the levels of trace elements, and it significantly raises redox. It polishes water to unparalleled clarity. purfiltrum™ progressively darkens as it removes impurities, and is easily renewed by treating with bleach per recommended regeneration instructions. purfiltrum™ is designed for both marine and freshwater use.

Directions

Rinse before use. Use in a fine mesh filter bag such as Seachem's The Bag™. Each 225 mL treats up to 1,000 L (250 US gallons) for up to six months. Exhaustion is indicated by a pronounced discoloration of the beads to dark brown or black. Regeneration: Once it is exhausted, it can be easily regenerated with a solution of bleach and water. Soak in a 1:1 bleach:water solution for 24 hours in a non-metallic container in a well-ventilated area, away from children. Use regular 8.25% hypochlorite household bleach (non-scented, no dyes, do not use a splash-less bleach). Rinse well, then soak for 8 hours with a solution containing 3 tablespoons of alpha™, or equivalent dechlorinator per cup of water. Rinse well. For freshwater use, soak beads for 4 hours in a solution containing 2 tablespoons of buffer (Seachem Discus Buffer® or Neutral Regulator®) per cup of water. The original color and full activity should now be restored and purfiltrum™ is ready for reuse. Caution: some slime coat products may permanently foul purfiltrum™ and render regeneration difficult. Do not reuse if odor of bleach/chlorine is detectable. If uncertain, soak beads in small quantity of water and test for residual chlorine with a chlorine test kit.
