Ventilation slots
Ventilation slots in the lid of the filter and aeration grooves in the outflow ensure that water returned to the tank is fully oxygenated and maximize gas exchange during filtration.
Bottom-to-top flow
The pump pushes water up into the basket of the filter, entering through the bottom of the basket and being pushed out the top. A bottom-to-top flow ensures that water comes into contact will all filter media, and cannot go around or over filter media as with hang on back filters with a back-to-front flow.
Maintenance alert
Over time, filtration media can become clogged with detritus reducing or obstructing the flow of water through it. When this happens in Tidal™ filters, water is redirected around the filter and back into the aquarium through an outlet on the side. The redirected water pushes up the blue maintenance alert on the top of the filter, signaling that the filter needs to be cleaned.
Surface skimmer
The surface skimmer will capture the water from just below the surface, where excreted fish oils accumulate, as well as deeper in the tank removing floating debris
Telescoping intake pipe
The adjustable telescoping intake allows water to be taken from any level of the tank without the need to stop the filter or bother with spare parts
Flow regulation
The flow on the pump is adjustable using the dial on the front
Intake flow regulation
A dial on the side of the filter adjusts how much flow comes from the underwater intake versus the surface skimmer
No filter cartridges
The filter basket has a huge capacity to hold filtration media of your choice in the configuration of your choice. All Tidal™ Filters come with Seachem’s Matrix™ bio-media to get you started.
No mess maintenance
The basket is fully removable and snaps into the lid of the filter for easy and drip-free transit to a sink or hose for cleaning.
Self-priming pump
Self-priming pump means there is no need to fill the filter basket with water, start a siphon, monitor the filter, or any of the other headaches of starting a new filter
Self-cleaning impeller
The self-cleaning, corrosion-resistant impeller is suited for both saltwater and freshwater environments. This cuts down on maintenance and makes the filter suitable for a wide range of environments.
Adjustable leveling device
A leveler on the base of the filter lets the filter adjust to a variety of aquarium styles
Heater holder
A heater can be attached to the side with an optional heater clip, allowing for better dispersal of heated water through the aquarium.
3 year warranty
All Tidal™ Filters are guaranteed against defects of materials and workmanship for a period of 3 years from the date of purchase, except for the pump’s impeller. This can be extended to 5 years by registering your filter. The warranty covers the replacement of the defective parts.

purfiltrum™ is a unique macro-porous synthetic polymer that removes soluble and insoluble organic impurities from water 5 to 10 times faster and more completely than all other competing products. It is the highest capacity organic filtration resin on the market outperforming even Seachem Purigen®, binding 10 to 15% more organic material. purfiltrum™ controls ammonia, nitrites and nitrates by removing nitrogenous organic waste that would otherwise be converted into these harmful chemicals. purfiltrum™ will not reduce the levels of trace elements, and it significantly raises redox. It polishes water to unparalleled clarity. purfiltrum™ progressively darkens as it removes impurities, and is easily renewed by treating with bleach per recommended regeneration instructions. purfiltrum™ is designed for both marine and freshwater use.
Directions
Rinse before use. Use in a fine mesh filter bag such as Seachem's The Bag™. Each 225 mL treats up to 1,000 L (250 US gallons) for up to six months. Exhaustion is indicated by a pronounced discoloration of the beads to dark brown or black.
Regeneration: Once it is exhausted, it can be easily regenerated with a solution of bleach and water. Soak in a 1:1 bleach:water solution for 24 hours in a non-metallic container in a well-ventilated area, away from children. Use regular 8.25% hypochlorite household bleach (non-scented, no dyes, do not use a splash-less bleach). Rinse well, then soak for 8 hours with a solution containing 3 tablespoons of alpha™, or equivalent dechlorinator per cup of water. Rinse well. For freshwater use, soak beads for 4 hours in a solution containing 2 tablespoons of buffer (Seachem Discus Buffer® or Neutral Regulator®) per cup of water. The original color and full activity should now be restored and purfiltrum™ is ready for reuse. Caution: some slime coat products may permanently foul purfiltrum™ and render regeneration difficult. Do not reuse if odor of bleach/chlorine is detectable. If uncertain, soak beads in small quantity of water and test for residual chlorine with a chlorine test kit.
| The Tidal™ Filter Impeller is self-cleaning, corrosion-resistant and suited for both saltwater and freshwater environments. This cuts down on maintenance and makes the filter suitable for a wide range of environments. | Overview

| Overview
MatrixCarbon™ is a truly unique activated carbon. It is formed as a spherical bead for optimum hydrodynamics, and will not pack. It permits maximum water flow and contact with its high density of macroporous binding sites. MatrixCarbon™ has a very low ash content as indicated by its minimal impact on pH. Even when added to distilled water, it does not raise pH above 7.0. While all carbons contain phosphate, regardless of false claims to the contrary, MatrixCarbon™ has the lowest detectable leachable phosphate content of all major carbon brands tested. MatrixCarbon™ outperforms other high grade carbons by at least two-fold when compared for total capacity to remove aquarium organic matter, rate of adsorption, and duration of use.
While carbon is generally considered to be a chemical filter, that is not precisely true. It is in fact a mechanical filter as well, but it is only capable of mechanically filtering objects of molecular size. It functions through extremely small cracks and crevices, called macropores and micropores. Microporous carbons remove primarily metals and smaller ions (like trace minerals) and are best suited to air filtration, while macroporous carbons remove primarily larger organic molecules (like nitrogenous waste) and are best suited to water filtration.
The ingredients from which a carbon is manufactured determine whether it will be macro- or microporous. Carbons made from coconut shell and other organic products form microporous carbons, while carbons made from bituminous coal form macroporous carbons. MatrixCarbon™ is a bituminous coal-based, macroporous carbon. It is the only spherical carbon on the market, allowing for maximum water flow. It is sized to allow full penetration by water, but not small enough to escape filter bags. All carbons contain phosphate. However, that phosphate DOES NOT come from washing the carbon with phosphoric acid. Most carbons are washed with sulfuric acid. The phosphate is contained in the ash from the carbon source. The main purpose of acid-washing is to remove ash. Because of MatrixCarbon’s™ hydrodynamic properties, more ash is washed from our carbon than any other. Therefore, it has the lowest leachable phosphate on the market.
Directions
250 mL will easily treat 400 L (100 US gallons) for several months. Use in a filter bag. Rinse before use. For best results, MatrixCarbon™ should be placed so as to maximize the flow of water through it. It may be used in a canister filter, chemical filtration module, box filter, or any high flow area of a trickle filter.
