SEACHEM BRACKISH SALT 300 g

  • Creates ideal environment for livebearers and brackish fish
  • Safe for plants
  • Effective alternative to the sodium chloride based aquarium salts so prevalent

Overview

Seachem’s Brackish Salt™ is a chemically sound blend of salts designed to replicate the native environment of live bearers and other brackish estuary fish without adversely impacting aquatic plants when used at regionally specific recommended dosage. The salt is also well suited for routine aquarium freshwater use. It does not impact pH or provide buffering.

Unlike other aquarium salts currently available to the hobbyist, Brackish Salt™ is more than just a simple sodium chloride product. These other salts can burn leaves and roots in a planted aquarium. However, Brackish Salt™ does not cause this type of damage, and actually provides many nutrients crucial to healthy plant growth. Dosing of Brackish Salt™ allows for specific duplication of different brackish water environments found worldwide (such as the waters of Sumatra or the waters of Borneo). Brackish Salt™ can also be dosed for general brackish water community aquariums and general freshwater community aquarium. Brackish Salt™ is a safe and effective alternative to the sodium chloride based aquarium salts so prevalent

Directions

Use when setting up an aquarium and when making water changes. To add salt to an established tank, do so gradually. It is best to dissolve the salt in freshwater before use. Avoid using salt when simply replacing evaporated water.

  • For live bearers (such as guppies, swordtails, platies, some mollies), use 20 g (~1 tablespoon) for each 40 L (10 US gallons).
  • For estuary fish from the Yucatan or Sri Lanka (Archers, Chromides, some mollies), use 15 g (~2 teaspoons) for each 12 L (3 US gallons).
  • For estuary fish from Thailand, Cambodia, Borneo, or Sumatra (Datnioides), use 40 g (~2 tablespoons) per 12 L (3 US gallons).
  • For scats, use up to 80 g (~4 tablespoons) per 12 L (3 US gallons). This dose is not for planted aquaria.
  • For mixed populations, use an average dose, representative of species present. For specific information on your fish, check with your dealer or other reference source.
  • For general aquarium salt use (either for mineral replacement or disease control), use 20 g (~1 tablespoon) for each 40 L (10 US gallons).

Overview

Fresh Trace™ supplies a broad range of trace elements demonstrated* to be necessary for proper fish health and growth. Unlike terrestrial animals, fish obtain nutrients from both their food and environment. Trace elements are normally depleted by utilization, oxidation and precipitation, thus it is important to restore them on a regular basis. Fresh Trace™ contains only those elements actually demonstrated* to be required by fish. *Nutrient Requirements of Fish, National Academy of Sciences, pp. 16-21,1993.

Directions

Use 1 capful (5 mL) for every 80 L (20 US gallons) twice a week. Feed NutriDiet® Tropical Flakes for optimal fish health.

Overview

Replenish™ is a proprietary blend of salts designed to replenish physiologically relevant minerals that are removed by reverse osmosis or deionizing filtration. Replenish™ restores General Hardness (GH) using a balanced blend of both “soft” (sodium, potassium) and “hard” (calcium, magnesium) salts. Restoration of mineral content is essential since a complete lack of minerals will result in osmotic stress in those species whose osmoregulation systems are adapted to a mineralized environment. Severe osmotic stress can result in osmotic shock which will lead to rapid death. To restore GH in the planted aquarium, we recommend Equilibrium™.

Directions

Add 5 mL (1 capful) Replenish™ to 40 L (10 US gallons) to raise GH by 1 meq/L (2.8 dGH). Recommended restoration level into DI or RO water is 1-2 meq/L which is 5 mL per each 20-40 L (5-10 US gallons.)

Overview

Betta Basics™ is designed to provide the optimal environment for both betta and plant. Betta Basics™ removes any chlorine, chloramine and detoxifies ammonia. It buffers the water to a pH of 7.0 and provides a healthy environment for fish and plant. Feed NutriDiet® Betta Pellet Food for optimal fish health.

Directions

Use with each water change. For best results also use 2–3 times per week. Add 1 capful (5 mL) per each 1.25 L (1.25 quarts) of water. In Betta-only bowls (i.e. no plant) use 1 capful per 4 L (1 US gallon) with water changes.

Overview

Reef Kalkwasser™ is a pure calcium hydroxide with unsurpassed purity and solubility characteristics. Calcium hydroxide is used to prepare limewater (kalkwasser) solutions that will maintain calcium concentrations at natural seawater levels. Kalkwasser solutions maintain calcium directly and carbonate alkalinity indirectly. However, its capacity to perform these functions is dependent on evaporation rate and CO2 concentration. If these two factors are insufficient you can provide additional calcium with Reef Advantage Calcium™, Reef Complete™, or Reef Calcium™, and carbonate alkalinity with Reef Builder™ or Reef Carbonate™ (do not mix these directly with a kalkwasser solution). While Reef Kalkwasser™ is a high purity and economical limewater mix, the beginner, or someone with not as much time to devote to their system, may prefer to use other less involved methods for maintaining proper ionic concentration levels.

Directions

Never add this product directly to the tank. Add 3 g (1 teaspoon) to 4 L (1 US gallon) of water and mix to dissolve. If using pure water, a fully saturated solution is prepared by adding 6 g (2 teaspoons) to 4 L (1 US gallon). Drip this solution into tank. Monitor pH and carbonate alkalinity. Adjust rate of addition to maintain a stable pH (8.3–8.4). Notes: Adding 4 L (1 US gallon) of a saturated kalkwasser solution to 150 L (40 US gallons) will raise calcium by 24 mg/L. Always use the clear supernatant (top solution) only and do not allow undissolved material to enter the aquarium. Keep this container tightly closed when not in use and minimize solution/air contact to avoid calcium carbonate formation/precipitation.

Overview

StressGuard™ is the premium slime coat protection product. StressGuard™ will reduce stress and ammonia toxicity whenever handling or transporting fish. StressGuard™ binds to exposed protein in wounds to promote healing of injured fish and to reduce the likelihood of primary and secondary infections. StressGuard™ is compatible with all medications except those that are copper based. StressGuard™ is not amine based and will not interfere with Purigen®; or HyperSorb™ regeneration. StressGuard™ does not coat resins or clog filtration like competing “slime coat” type products can. What makes StressGuard™ very successful at healing is the fact that it contains protein active colloids. This protein active colloidal agent actively seeks out any wounds, abrasions, or places where exposed proteins are and attaches to this area to help directly deliver the disinfectant in the product and start the healing process. This protein active colloid, because it binds to the exposed proteins, also acts like a liquid bandage to the abrasion. Some products are marketed to be squirted in the bag when a fish is purchased. Those products are generally acidic, with some brands being a very strong acid. Putting such a product in a small, enclosed container with a fish often does more harm than any intended good. StressGuard™ has a pH of 7.0. It will not affect the pH of an aquarium, even at large doses. There are no other products on the market that can compare to the effectiveness of StressGuard™.

Directions

Use 1/2–1 capful (2.5–5 mL) to every 40 L (10 US gallons) daily until signs of stress have abated or healing is complete. Dose may be safely doubled.
