SEACHEM AMMONIA ALERT 1 Year

  • Seachem sensor technology
  • Continuously detects and monitors free ammonia
  • No test kits, chemicals, or procedures are needed; just constant readings
  • Lasts over a year
  • Marine and freshwater

Overview

Ammonia Alert® is an innovative color device for continuously detecting and monitoring toxic free ammonia. A sensor changes reversibly from yellow to green to blue, relative to the ammonia concentration. No test kits, chemicals, or procedures are needed. The device detects less than 0.05 mg/L (ppm) free ammonia and alerts you to the #1 killer before any sign of stress. It lasts over a year. This product is not recommended for use at acid pH. Marine or freshwater use.

In the absence of free ammonia the unit will assume a yellow or faint yellow-green color. It is normal for the dry sensor to have a greenish hue. It may take up to a few days for a dry sensor to equilibrate with the water. No sampling of water, chemicals, or test procedures are required. The presence of the free ammonia is detectable continuously with a response time of about 15 minutes. Response to decreasing ammonia is slower, requiring about 4 hours to go from TOXIC to SAFE on removal of ammonia.

Ammonia Alert® lasts over 9X as long as competing products.
Ammonia Alert® is also almost half the size of competing products. It’s small, clear, and unobtrusive, so it won’t detract from the view of your aquarium.

Alert
0.05 mg/L

Tolerated for 3-5 days. Monitor and consider a water change soon.

Alarm
0.2 mg/L

Tolerated for 1-3 days. Perform a water change soon.

Toxic
0.5 mg/L

Perform water change or treat with AmGuard™ for emergency ammonia removal

As little as 0.02 mg/L of free ammonia will produce a greenish hue on the detector surface. This corresponds to a total ammonia (both ionized and free ammonia) of 0.25 mg/L in marine water at pH 8.3. In freshwater at pH 7.0, this corresponds to 3.6 mg/L total ammonia.

Free ammonia is much more toxic than ionized ammonia. As free ammonia, the ALERT color corresponds to about 0.05 mg/L, ALARM to about 0.2 mg/L, and TOXIC to about 0.5 mg/L. Administering a water change should be considered for any indication other than SAFE. The ALERT concentration is tolerated for 3-5 days, ALARM for 1-3 days, and TOXIC is rapidly harmful, requiring immediate attention. For emergency ammonia removal, treat with AmGuard™.

Care

No care is required beyond removing algae with a clean, soft material. Avoid touching the sensor with fingers, since skin oils can damage it. Do not use bleach, soap, detergents or hard objects to clean the sensor. Some dye medications may discolor the sensor. Sensitivity improves with age, provided the unit is not allowed to dry out, however, drying does not permanently impair the unit. For maximum sensitivity, the unit should be read under natural daylight or daylight simulating light. Red enhancing light minimizes green and blue hues, decreasing the apparent sensitivity of the unit. The response of the unit may be checked by holding it briefly over the mouth of an ammonia bottle: color should develop rapidly

This kit measures total (NH3 and NH4+) and free ammonia (NH3 only) down to less than 0.05 mg/L and is virtually interference free in marine and fresh water. Free ammonia is the toxic form of ammonia (vs. ionized Ammonia NH4+ which is non-toxic) and thus it is much more important to keep an eye on the level of free ammonia in your system. This kit may be used with freshwater or marine water. Unlike other kits on the market, the chemical basis for this test assures that interference from other substances is highly unlikely. MultiTest™ Ammonia performs over 75 tests and contains a reference sample for validation.

Features

75 Tests

MultiTest™ Ammonia performs over 75 tests And with the multi-cavity test plate, multiple tests can be run at the same time.

Seachem Sensor Technology

This kit is based on the same gas exchange technology that is used in the Ammonia Alert® and thus is the only kit on the market that can read levels of free ammonia while using ammonia removal products such as Prime®, Safe™, AmGuard™ and any similar competing products. Other kits (salicylate or Nessler based) determine the total ammonia by raising the pH of the test solution to 12 or greater. At this high pH all ammonia removal products will breakdown and rerelease the ammonia, thus giving you a false ammonia reading.

Reference Sample

It isn't necessary to run a reference test to use this kit; however, its proper performance can be validated by running a test in the normal manner except that the reference sample is used in place of aquarium sample. You might choose to run a reference test if you have cause to believe the test is giving incorrect results.

Color Chart

All MultiTest™ test kits come with an easy-to-read color chart. It features a 5 cm viewing window to help isolate color and match as closely as possible to the test sample

Opaque Multi-Cavity Test Plate

All MultiTest™ test kits are read from an opaque white test plate. The sliding color chart along with the six-cavity test plate allows for easy reading and comparisons of several samples at the same time.

Overview

pH Alert® is a unique color device designed to be placed in the aquarium or filter and monitor pH continuously. A sensor changes color reversibly from yellow to orange to red alerting you to shifts in pH levels between 5.4 and 8.0. Freshwater use only.

pH Alert® lasts up to 4X as long as competing products. pH Alert® is also almost half the size of competing products. It's small, clear, and unobtrusive, so it won't detract from the view of your aquarium.

Interpretation
Simply place pH Alert® visibly anywhere in the aquarium or filter and match the sensor color to the corresponding pH reading on the color wheel. It’s that easy. No chemicals or test procedures are required. When first put in service, response time will be about 30 minutes. Thereafter, pH shifts will register within ten minutes.
Care

No care is required beyond removing algae with a clean, soft material. Do not use bleach, soap, detergents or hard objects to clean the sensor. Some dye medications may discolor the sensor. For maximum sensitivity, the unit should be read under natural daylight or daylight simulating light. Sensor exhaustion is indicated by a visible fading or washing out of sensor color. Once exhausted, it is time to replace pH Alert®

Copper kits are usually of two types: compleximetric or titration based. Some kits measure only ionic copper and others measure both ionic and chelated copper. This kit uses a highly sensitive catalytic compleximetric based procedure to measure all types of copper to less than 0.01 mg/L in marine or freshwater. MultiTest™ Copper performs over 75 tests and contains a reference sample for validation.

Nitrite is toxic and should be undetectable in any well established aquarium. During cycling, it may exceed 20 mg/L. Nitrate is relatively non-toxic, but it is advantageous to control it to under 20 mg/L. MultiTest™ Nitrite/Nitrate measures nitrite to less than 0.1 mg/L and nitrate to less than 0.2 mg/L in marine or freshwater. The values reported by this kit are expressed as nitrite and nitrate rather than nitrogen (to convert to nitrogen, simply divide by 3.3 and 4.4, respectively). It performs over 75 tests and contains a reference sample for validation.

Iron is of no importance in fish only aquaria; however, iron over 0.5 mg/L may be toxic to some species and should be avoided. Under normal conditions, iron is virtually impossible to maintain at measurable concentrations in seawater. Natural seawater concentration for iron is about 0.01 mg/L. Iron is important in planted aquaria and should be maintained between 0.1 to 0.2 mg/L. MultiTest™ Iron measures both ionic and most chelated iron in freshwater or marine water to less than 0.05 mg/L. It performs over 75 tests and contains a reference sample for validation.
