Features

Ventilation slots

Ventilation slots in the lid of the filter and aeration grooves in the outflow ensure that water returned to the tank is fully oxygenated and maximize gas exchange during filtration.

Bottom-to-top flow

The pump pushes water up into the basket of the filter, entering through the bottom of the basket and being pushed out the top. A bottom-to-top flow ensures that water comes into contact will all filter media, and cannot go around or over filter media as with hang on back filters with a back-to-front flow.

Maintenance alert

Over time, filtration media can become clogged with detritus reducing or obstructing the flow of water through it. When this happens in Tidal™ filters, water is redirected around the filter and back into the aquarium through an outlet on the side. The redirected water pushes up the blue maintenance alert on the top of the filter, signaling that the filter needs to be cleaned.

Surface skimmer

The surface skimmer will capture the water from just below the surface, where excreted fish oils accumulate, as well as deeper in the tank removing floating debris

Telescoping intake pipe

The adjustable telescoping intake allows water to be taken from any level of the tank without the need to stop the filter or bother with spare parts

Flow regulation

The flow on the pump is adjustable using the dial on the front

Intake flow regulation

A dial on the side of the filter adjusts how much flow comes from the underwater intake versus the surface skimmer

No filter cartridges

The filter basket has a huge capacity to hold filtration media of your choice in the configuration of your choice. All Tidal™ Filters come with Seachem's Matrix™ bio-media to get you started.

No mess maintenance

The basket is fully removable and snaps into the lid of the filter for easy and drip-free transit to a sink or hose for cleaning.

Self-priming pump

Self-priming pump means there is no need to fill the filter basket with water, start a siphon, monitor the filter, or any of the other headaches of starting a new filter

Self-cleaning impeller

The self-cleaning, corrosion-resistant impeller is suited for both saltwater and freshwater environments. This cuts down on maintenance and makes the filter suitable for a wide range of environments.

Adjustable leveling device

A leveler on the base of the filter lets the filter adjust to a variety of aquarium styles

Heater holder

A heater can be attached to the side with an optional heater clip, allowing for better dispersal of heated water through the aquarium.

3 year warranty

All Tidal™ Filters are guaranteed against defects of materials and workmanship for a period of 3 years from the date of purchase, except for the pump’s impeller. This can be extended to 5 years by registering your filter. The warranty covers the replacement of the defective parts.

Overview

Matrix™ is a high porosity biomedia that provides efficient biofiltration for the removal of nitrogenous waste. Matrix™ is a porous inorganic solid about 10 mm in diameter. Each liter of Matrix™ provides as much surface (>~700 m2) as 170 liters of plastic balls! Plastic bio-materials provide only external surface area, whereas Matrix™ provides both external and internal macroporous surface area. These macropores are ideally sized for the support of nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria. This allows Matrix™, unlike other forms of biomedia, to remove nitrate along with ammonia and nitrite, simultaneously and in the same filter. Matrix™ is completely inert and will not breakdown. It need not be replaced. Since the majority of the bacteria are internal, Matrix™ may be rinsed when needed without damaging the filter. Matrix™ is compatible with all types of wet or wet-dry filters.

Directions

Use 250 mL of Matrix™ for each 200 L (50 US gallons)** of water. Matrix™ may be placed in any kind of filter, and is particularly effective in a canister filter. Matrix™ is sufficiently large that no filter bag should be required for most applications. Matrix™ works well in drip tray systems, but you may find that the larger Pond Matrix™ is better suited for such applications. Use with Stability® to more rapidly establish the bio-filter. **This dosage may differ from your packaging. Based on updated studies, we've found Matrix™ treats even more water than previously asserted.

Overview

Seachem Zeolite™ is a naturally occurring, highly-porous mineral that binds ammonia and heavy metals through an ion exchange mechanism. It has the highest ammonia binding capacity of any available zeolite; ten times higher than some products and twice the capacity of the closest competitor. It won’t deplete calcium in saltwater, and it won’t increase general hardness in freshwater, where the ionic strength is low.

Directions

For best results, Seachem Zeolite™ should be rinsed before use and placed so as to maximize the flow of water through it but not so that it tumbles against itself in flow. It may be used in a canister filter, media chamber, box filter, or any high flow area of a trickle filter. Use of a filter bag such as Seachem’s The Bag™ or Zip Bag™ is recommended. Use 250 mL (1 cup) of Seachem Zeolite™ for every 200 L (50 US gallons). For smaller aquariums, the equivalent dose is 5 mL (1 level teaspoon) per 4 L (1 US gallon). This amount of Seachem Zeolite™ will remove up to 0.5 mg/L ammonia. Monitor ammonia levels, which should drop to zero within 24-48 hours. At this point, the zeolite can be removed or replaced with activated carbon, such as Seachem MatrixCarbon™. For heavy metals removal, leave in service and replace monthly. For long term ammonia control, use Seachem Stability® and Matrix™. Use Ammonia Alert® or MultiTest™ Free & Total Ammonia to directly monitor levels of free ammonia.
